2010 Independence Day Celebration
Since 1998, fireworks have been a big part of the Independence Day Celebration at Mount Rushmore National Memorial on July 3. Due to the fire danger caused by the pine bark beetle, the National Park Service cancelled the fireworks component of this year's events. We will still be partnering with the park service to bring wonderful entertainment to the Memorial during the celebration (as detailed below) and look forward to working with our sponsors to encourage visitors and locals to enjoy all that Mount Rushmore has to offer during July 3-4!
2010 Independence Day Celebration
Join the Mount Rushmore National Memorial Society in sponsoring the entertainment during Mount Rushmore’s 13th Annual Independence Day Celebration July 3-4, 2010. The event will center around talent from the local community, and visitors can expect to experience a wide variety of educational programs, patriotic tributes and musical entertainment in celebration of Independence Day. The Memorial has planned a full schedule of events for both July 3 and 4.
Among highlights of the celebration include children's entertainer Phil Baker, presidential re-enactors of Presidents Washington, Lincoln and Roosevelt, along with performaces by hoop dancer Jasmine Pickner, flute player Sequoia Crosswhite and cultural demonstrations by the Germans from Russia and other local cultural organizations. The events on July 3 will culminate in a performace by the Black Hills Symphony. The Porcupine Singers from Porcupine, SD are also scheduled to perform on July 3. Events planned for July 4 include cultural demonstrations, National Park Service ranger programs and the traditional Evening Lighting Ceremony. The full itinerary is coming soon.
Visitors can expect to find opportunities for all family members including children's programs, presidential programs, the NPS Junior Ranger programs and other events throughout the weekend.
By partnering with the Society to sponsor this patriotic event, you can be a part of America’s birthday party!
